Local Information

During your stay at the HOLDSWORTH HOUSE, you will find that the local area offers you many things to do and see.

There is the Admiral Digby Museum located on Montague Row where there are rooms filled with exhibits of local history.  They have a very informative staff to help you to research genealogy and any questions you may have in regards to Digby and its history.

Visit the Trinity Anglican Church, located on Queen Street.  It was finished in the 1800's.  Built by shipwrights as one can appreciate by the hull-shaped design of the ceiling.

Doffy Samson Antiques, holds an excellent stock of local and provincial pieces.  She is able to answer any questions you may have regarding antiques and can help you find that special item.  Visit her website at www.doffysamson.com

If you are looking for some local writings, pay a visit to the Crooked Timber Bookstore, located on Water Street.  They have a separate section dedicated to Digby and Nova Scotia.  www.crookedtimber.com

There is a very interesting toy shop called The Return of the Toy Maker.  All the toys are hand made from wood.  Also at the same location is the Digby Gallery showcasing local artists.

Walk down to the fishing wharf and watch the fishermen unload their daily catch of lobster and scallops.

Take a drive down the scenic Digby Neck.  This is where you will find the best whale-watching on the Bay of Fundy.  I can personally recommend Pirate's Cove Whale and Seabird cruise.   www.piratescove.ca

The town of Annapolis Royal, settled in 1605 is just a 20 minute drive.  Here you will find the French Fort of Habitation(Port Royal) this is a reproduction of the original fort built in 1605.  Fort Anne is located in the town itself.  There is a farmers market every Saturday.
